Panchayat bypolls: Congress, BJP share 12 seats each

JAIPUR: The ruling BJP and the opposition Congress have won 12 seats each out of the 26 seats in panchayat bodies, the by-poll results of which were declared on Monday.
Of the remaining two seats, Balotra panchayat samiti ward-2 (Barmer) was won unopposed by an independent candidate, while the result of Gadraroad panchayat samiti ward-15 (Barmer) could not be declared even on Tuesday.
By-polls for electing 24 members in different panchayat samities and two members in Zila Parishad, Pratapgarh were held on September 22. BJP and Congress candidates pocketed one seat each in the Pratapgarh Zila Parishad, while won 11 seats each from the 24 seats in different panchayat samities.
Even as both the political parties won equal number of seats in the by-polls, PCC chief Sachin Pilot claimed the panchayat bodies' results indicated people have lost faith in the state BJP government.
