Market Now: ONGC, Vedanta most active stocks in terms of volume

NEW DELHI: Shares of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) (number of shares traded: 0.43 crore) were trading as the most active stock in terms of volume on NSE in Tuesday's trade on reports that the State-owned company will acquire the government's 51.11 per cent stake in Hindustan Petroleum Corporation through a bulk or block deal sometime in November or December at the prevailing market price.

REC (0.40 crore), Vedanta (0.27 crore), DLF (0.24 crore), State Bank of India (0.20 crore), Axis Bank (0.17 crore), Tata Power (0.15 crore), ITC (0.13 crore), JSW Steel (0.12 crore), Divi's Lab (0.12 crore), BHEL (0.12 crore) and Bank of Baroda (0.12 crore) were also in the league.

Key equity benchmarks Sensex and Nifty started Tuesday's session on a cautious note. Sensex gained 67 points but slipped thereafter into the negative zone. Nifty rose to touch 9,885-mark.

The Nifty50 index was trading almost flat at 9,873, while the 30-share Sensex was 3 points down at 31,623 around 10.05 am (IST).

In the Nifty index, ONGC, Sun Pharma, Adani Ports, Lupin and Tata Steel were gaining in trade.

On the other hand, Hindustan Unilever, Asian Paints, Dr Reddy's, HDFC and Coal India were losing.

On the NSE, 1097 stocks were advancing, compared with 444 stocks declining and 420 stocks remaining unchanged.

On BSE, 1,326 stocks were advancing whereas 522 stocks were lagging and 70 stocks were appearing unchanged.
