Indore: Soon, fuel theft from petrol stations will be a story of the past. Following increasing complaints of petrol-diesel stealing from pumps by implanting electronic chips and through several other corrupt means, oil marketing companies (OMCs) have rolled out tamper proof pulsar device at each of its pumps, which would thwart every attempt of wrong doing and even automatically block the fuel dispensation if someone tries to do so.
Alerted by the widespread phenomenon of petrol and diesel theft by petrol pumps by implanting electronic chips in the machine in Uttar Pradesh, the OMCs have initiated efforts towards making the pumps tamper-free. Talking to this correspondent, chief general manager of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Vigyan Kumar informed that his company has launched a massive effort in this direction.
Kumar was in city to participate in an exhibition at Gandhi Hall, showcasing India’s freedom struggle and ‘New India Vision’. IOC is the partner in organising the exhibition. Elaborating the initiative rolled out by his company, Kumar said that “We are implanting tamper-free pulsar unit in each of our pumps. The pulsar unit is 100% tamper proof. If any pump owner or employe tries to manipulate the machine, it will automatically stop dispensing fuel. Through the Pulsar unit, which is an electronic device, OMCs will also be able to monitor the quantity of dispensation of the fuel, where every drop of the fuel will be accounted.”
Kumar further explained that “We have already rolled out the job and over 75% pumps of the Indore region are being equipped with tamper-free pulsar unit. In the next six months all the pumps will be equipped with the unit. It may be noted that there are more than 90 petrol pumps of IOC in the Indore district. The initiative is the part of converting the pumps into a smart one.”
