Who says age can be a hindrance to your passion? At 90, the legendary Khayyam is doing a concert to raise money for a cause. On October 7, the musician will perform at Good Shepherd Auditorium in the city. The proceeds from this function will go to charity and will aid heart surgeries for children and the pulse polio initiative from Rotary district 3190.
If you contribute ₹ 5000, you will get one special VIP pass for the event with and an opportunity to get a photo with Khayyam plus an autographed book by him. If the contributor decides to contribute ₹ 10000, he/she will get two VIP passes, get a photo clicked with the veteran artiste plus two personally autographed books by him. Upon contribution of ₹20,000, the donor gets four VIP passes for the event, an opportunity to get a photo with Khayyam plus four personally autographed books by him.
He was born as Mohammed Zayur Khayyam Hashmi in Jalandhar in 1927. Composing music for over 70 years, he has given us gems like Ae Dil-e-Nadan, Karoge Yaad To and Dikhai Diye Yun, dil cheez kya hai, Kabhie Kabhie and many more.
He won the Filmfare awards for Best Music for Kabhi Kabhie in 1977 and again in 1982 for Umrao Jaan.
This is not the first instance where his love for causes becomes evident. He also has a trust through which he has donated his entire wealth to support needy artistes and technicians in the film industry.
