Security forces today foiled a massive infiltration bid from across the border in the Keran sector of Line of Control (LoC). As per India Today report, at least 7-8 armed terrorists suspected to be backed by Pakistan’s Border Action Team (BAT) attacked an Army post. As per the report, the infiltration bid was done at around 11 AM in the morning. They were supported by small and mortar fire from across the border. The attack was repulsed by jawans fierce reply.
Earlier this month, an intelligence report had said that the Pakistan Army and the ISI were planning a BAT operation against the Indian Army at the LoC. The input suggested that the Pakistan Army was planning a strike by its special service group with terrorist groups in areas like Keran, Gurez, Uri, Nowgam and in Kashmir Valley, India Today said.
Earlier this morning, security forces had foiled another infiltration bid in Uri sector of Kashmir’s Baramulla district and a terrorist was killed in the encounter. “An infiltration bid has been eliminated in general area Zorawar of Uri sector. One terrorist has been killed,” an Army official was quoted as saying by PTI. He further said that a weapon was also recovered from the site of the encounter.
The intrusion from across the border took place a day after Army chief Bipin Rawat warned Pakistan of another surgical strike if it “does not behave”. “Surgical strikes were a message that we wanted to communicate, and I think they understand that,” General Rawat was quoted as saying by Indian Express.
“If required, and if the adversary does not behave, then we have to continue with these kinds of activities. But there are also other ways of doing these things and (they may) not take the same form,” the paper quoted him as saying further.
