3-year-old fell sick after being beaten at school, claim parents

The parents of a 3-year-old pre-nursery student alleged that she was beaten in school due to which she got unwell and had to be rushed to the hospital. In a complaint to police, the parents also alleged that school authorities called them up to take away their child as she was “unwell”. They added that the school authorities did not take her to hospital on their own.

As per complaint received by PAU police station of Ludhiana, Manya Nayyar (3), a student of BVM Kitchlu Nagar, studies in pre-nursery class. Her father, Pulkit Nayyar, a resident of Haibowal, claimed that school authorities called him up to tell about their daughter’s ill health on Tuesday. They did not take her to hospital. Later, when he asked her daughter about what happened in school, she alleged that she was beaten by the teacher.

The child is currently being treated at the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).

Sukhdeep Singh, investigating officer in the case from PAU police station, said that the statement of the parents is being recorded.

“School authorities have denied beating the child and said that she was feeling unwell. She was having high fever and was also given first aid in the school dispensary. Cold-water bandages were put on her forehead and then her parents came to pick her up. But we are probing the matter,” he said.

Neelam Mittar, principal of the school, said, “Corporal punishment is completely banned in our school. The child was suffering from high fever and we gave her first-aid. We immediately informed the parents to pick her up and also provided transport to take her to the hospital.”  She also alleged that the parents misbehaved with the school staff when they came to pick up the child and tried to create a scene.
