MANCHERIAL:In yet another instance of how lapses at government-run schools pose a danger to children, a 13-year-old student of a social welfare gurukul school in Karimnagar district fell from the the top floor of a Social Welfare Residential School in Jaipur mandal and died on Sunday.  The boy was visiting Mancherial to participate in a sports event organised by the management of the social welfare schools and was staying at the residential school at Jaipur.

According to police, Tekkumattla Venkatesh, a Class 6 student of Husnabad gurukul school, had gone to the building’s first-floor terrace to retrieve clothes he’d left there to dry on Sunday. “A monkey tried to attack him and he took a few steps back. There was no parapet wall and he fell,’’ police said. He was rushed him to Mancherial Government Hospital but he died on the way. A case has been registered against school management. Student organisations protested outside the school.

Second incident in recent months

This is not the first such death at this school. A few months ago, Class VII student fell from the window, which had no grill, while asleep and died.
