BJP’s anti-BJD protests from Nov

BHUBANESWAR: WITH an eye on the 2019 Assembly election, the BJP has planned to launch a series of agitational programmes across the State against the BJD to highlight failure of the Government in keeping its poll promises.As per the road map prepared by BJP president Amit Shah for winning at least 120 out of 147 Assembly seats in the State under his ‘Mission 120+’ programme, the party has undertaken booth contact programme to strengthen its position at the grassroots level.

“It has been decided to hold meetings in all the 36,000 polling booths to chalk out agitation programmes on local issues. The booth-level meetings will be completed in October and the proposed agitation will start from November,” State BJP vice-president Samir Mohanty said. After his two rounds of visit to the State in July and September, Shah is expected to tour Odisha again in December to take stock of the organisational activities, Mohanty said.

Meanwhile, four of the five Central leaders, including three Union ministers - Prakash Javadekar, Jual Oram and Dharmendra Pradhan - who are in charge of 21 Parliamentary constituencies, have held discussions with party leaders of the constituencies assigned to them.To realise his dream of winning the next Assembly election with a two-third majority and sending as many members to Lok Sabha, Shah has given the task to supervise the organisational activities to five Central leaders, including national BJP general secretaries Anil Jail and Arun Singh. They are working in close coordination with State and district functionaries of the party to consolidate the BJP position at booth level, he said.

While Oram, Pradhan, Javadekar and national BJP general secretary Anil Jain are in charge of four Parliamentary seats each, Singh is looking after five Lok Sabha seats.The State leadership of the BJP has been asked to classify the Assembly constituencies in three categories. The first category is where the party has fair chances of winning, second category where it will face tough competition and the last category where it has little presence.After the Puja, State functionaries and senior leaders of the party will make extensive tours to districts to give a further boost to the public outreach programme as charted out by Shah, Mohanty said.
