Durga Puja is the biggest festival in West Bengal and like every year, the creative minds in the state come up with innovative and crowd-pulling ideas to show their devotion towards the goddess of power.

In one such instance, Kolkata's Santosh Mitra Square Puja pandal has an idol covered in a saree made of 22kg gold.

The saree has been designed by renowned designer Agnimitra Paul. The gold saree is beautified with zari work embossed on it. According to a report in Financial Express, Paul sketched the design and a jewellery brand is giving shape to saree.

Devotees showing their devotion towards God through money and other wealth is not new in India.

Every now and then there are reports of people making an offer of several kilograms of gold, silver and money to their god.

For instance, the yearly collection of Tirupati Temple stands at upwards of Rs 2,000 crore.
