There was a lot of speculation around the Tamil and Telugu remakes of Pawan Kumar’s critically acclaimed film U-Turn, especially about their lead cast.

Initially, there were reports that the film was to be shot with Samantha Ruth Prabhu playing the female lead, with Pawan Kumar making his Tollywood debut. Later we heard that Nithya Menen was replacing Samantha and that the team was in search of a director who can helm the remakes in both the languages. But the latest development puts all rumours to rest with the team signing on Samantha as heroine, and the actress has allocated dates for the movie’s schedule.

“The production house always only had Samantha in mind because she was keen to be part of this heroine-centric film,” an industry source tells City Express.

“In fact nobody else had been approached for the role and we were wondering how Nithya Menen’s name came into the picture. All will be cleared up once the filmmakers make their official announcement, which they will, once they decide when to take the movie to the floors.”

Samantha is also waiting for the release of her upcoming film Mersal, with Vijay. On the personal front, the actress is busy with her wedding preparation and she is set to tie the knot with Naga Chaitanya on October 6.

Meanwhile, it has not yet been decided who will helm both the remakes. The director will be decided and shared with us when signs are placed on the dotted line.

U-Turn made in Kannada under Pawan Kumar Studios featured Shraddha Srinath in the lead with Roger Narayan and Dilip Raj among others in the cast. The film was screened at the New York Indian Film Festival 2016, and also did well in Karnataka.
