BHU violence: Worried Modi, Shah call up Yogi

| Sep 26, 2017, 03:04 IST
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah have taken serious note of the BHU violence, and spoken to UP chief minister Yogi Aditya Nath, Union minister Nitin Gadkari told reporters here on Monday.

That the incident happened in the PM's Lok Sabha constituency on a day he was on a visit there has added to the political row. "The incident is extremely unfortunate and any amount of regret expressed is inadequate," Gadkari said.

He added that an inquiry had been initiated by the UP government to see why the law and order situation went out of control. Violence erupted after some students protesting against an incident of sexual harassment sought to meet the VC but were stopped by security guards.
