A cultural extravaganza awaits the denizens of temple city as the South Central Zone Cultural Centre (SCZCC), an autonomous institution working under the aegis of Ministry of Culture-Government of India, has announced to conduct the first 'Lok Kala Yatra' in Tirupati.
The cultural fête, by SCZCC in association with the local administration, will be held at Iskcon Temple - Tirupati (September 29), ZP High School - Srikalahasti (September 30) and Shilparamam's Urban Haat - Tirupati (October 1). According to SCZCC Director E.N. Sajith, about 75 folk artists from Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh will take part in the event.
“Dance forms such as 'Dholu Kunitha' of Karnataka; Badhai, Norta and Baredi of Madhya Pradesh; Lawani, Waghya Murali, Gavalan, Vasudeo and Koli of Maharashtra: Dhimsa Lambadi Nritya of Andhra Pradesh and Gussadi, Bonalu Nritya of Telangana would be on display,” he added.
Mr. Sajith further said that the SCZCC, for the past 28 years, has been conducting 'Lok Kala Yatra' to promote and popularise the rich cultural heritage and provide a platform for folk and tribal artists to showcase their talent.
Workshop on 'Traditional Tribal and Folk Painting'
Besides this, the event would be followed by a ten-day workshop on 'Traditional Tribal and Folk Painting'. The workshop would be conducted by 20 national-level artists, who would not only showcase their skills but also teach the nuances of the art. The organisers opined that, 'in this age of gradual decline of art forms owing to the influence of western culture', such programmes hopes to revive them by showcasing the same to people and create interest among the younger generation.
