'Take measures to check violence against doctors'

JAIPUR: Viewing increasing incidents of violence against doctors as a cause of concern, the home department has directed all district collectors to take all possible measures to prevent such incidents.

In the letter, the home department has mentioned that there is already an act, which came into effect in 2008, for safety and security of healthcare staff and hospitals should be effectively implemented. The home department has clarified in the letter that it was the demand of All Rajasthan In-Service Doctors to make strict provision for preventing incidents of violence against doctors.

Also, the home department has mentioned that the incidents of violence discouraged doctors and such incidents also affected healthcare services to the patients.

The in-service doctors had demanded from the government to formulate a concrete policy for preventing such incidents of violence against them.

Recently, the in-service doctors of the state had gone on a one day mass leave de manding that their 33 demands should be fulfilled. A policy for safety and security of doctors was one of the 33 demands.

They also demanded separate hazardous services allowance as they remain exposed to radiation and also they always remain at risk of getting infected with highly contagious diseases like swine flu.
