NOIDA: To ensure smooth flow of traffic in the late evening hours, traffic police personnel along with marshals will remain alert at the main choke points in the city. Noida Authority will provide 20 traffic marshals to the Noida Traffic Police. The decision was made during a meeting held by the Chairman and CEO Noida Authority Alok Tandon with Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Anil Jha and Noida Traffic Cell in charge Sandeep Chandra, on Monday. The decision had been pending following directions by Uttar Pradesh Principal Secretary, Industries Alok Sinha in April this year. At the time Sinha was also holding charge of Chairman Noida. Sinha had then directed officials to address traffic congestion at four locations in the city and to post additional traffic marshals at the spot to tackle the congestion.
According to Noida Authority officials, though an in-principle approval had been given by Sinha at the time, the matter had been pending a final decision following change of guard in Noida Authority. "The current CCEO has directed that the difference between the sanctioned strength of traffic marshals for Noida and the strength already with Noida will be completed by Noida Authority. Currently, Noida has a sanctioned strength of 180 traffic marshals but have only 150 in place. Noida Authority will provide the balance 30 marshals required for the city," said a Noida Authority official.
Officials further said that in the first phase 20 marshals will be provided. "They will be posted at four crossings, which were identified by the Principal Secretary in April 2017. These crossings include Atta market, Botanic Garden crossing, sector 51 and 71 crossing and near sector 14A entry point into the city," he said. "Traffic police and Noida Traffic Cell (NTC) have been told to deploy the marshals at each of these points besides demarcating lanes for auto stands and marking out the Zebra crossing," he added.
