Data usage on telcos network doubled in 6 mths to 359 PB: Nokia

"We have seen a significant jump in growth. consumption of network of Indian telecom operators jumped 2.2 times in six months. Therefore, we have come up with the extension of the Mbit report," Head of Marketing and Corporate Affairs, Amit Marwah told PTI.

The study does not contain statistics of Jio network, he said.

The report said that will become the dominant technology in 2018.

Though there has been no change in usage of 3G in the total pie at 55 per cent, the usage increased from 3 per cent of the total consumed in the country in June 2015 to 34 per cent in June 2017.

"The is based on traffic flow measurement on Network in the country which has been extrapolated to the whole of the country. The sample size of about 350 million subscribers and one-third of them use mobile broadband," Marwah said.

As per the study, 3G device penetration reached 40 per cent level in the country, with robust growth in mobile devices.

As much as 18 per cent of active devices connected to the surveyed network are enabled, the survey said.

At present, Jio offers entire phone call service using technology. Airtel has just started VoLTE-based calls and plans to expand it to across India by the end of the current fiscal.
