NEW DELHI: Key equity benchmarks suffered heavy losses on Monday, with Sensex dropping 448 points intraday and Nifty touching 9,816-mark, tracking Asian peers.

Sustained selling across sectors and heavy capital outflow kept bourses on the tenterhooks.

Recovering a bit from intra-day lows, Nifty50 closed 92 points down at 9,873, while 30-share Sensex ended 296 points down at 31,626.

In the Nifty50 index, ACC, Aurobindo Pharma, Adani Ports, Ambuja Cements, UltraTech Cement, ITC, Bosch and Indian Oil Corporation settled as the top laggards, each declining over 2 per cent.

Among the gainers, Tata Power led with gains of 2 per cent. Coal India, Zee Entertainment, ICICI Bank, Hindustan Unilever and Bank of Baroda also joined the gainers' pack.

Nifty Realty index settled as the biggest loser among indices. It closed Monday's session 3.13 per cent down at 264, with shares of Indiabulls Real Estate as the top drag.

Pharma, metal and auto indices fell over 1 per cent on NSE.

In total, 62 stocks including Adhunik Industries, Sri Adhikari, Piramal Phytocare, Dishman Carbogen Amcis, Dixon Technologies (India), Sintex Plastics Technology, Cupid, Signet Industries, SML Isuzu, Shilpi Cable Technologies, Nitin Spinners and Kitex Garments touched their fresh 52-week lows on NSE on Monday.

On the other hand, Capacit'e Infraprojects, ITI, Lasa Supergenerics, Oberoi Realty, Orient Press, Reliance Home Finance, Shoppers Stop and TV Today Network were among those 21 stocks that hit fresh 52-week highs.

In the Nifty50 pack, 13 stocks settled in green, while 36 in red.
