The sole zebra in the Nandankanan Zoological Park died on Sunday. The deceased male zebra was brought with four other zebras from Israel’s Tel Aviv zoo in September 2015.

The reason for the sudden death of the 2.25-year-old zebra couldn't be ascertained. The carcass of the zebra has been sent for postmortem.

The other four zebras including three females died earlier this year.

According to the zoo officials, the animal was normal and had been keeping good health.

The Odisha Sun Times reported that lightning last evening might have claimed the life of the zebra.
