Want to savour the delicacies of Indian States? All you need to do is stroll along the Promenade beach in Puducherry to Gandhi Thidal.
Ministry of Minority Affairs has pulled in culinary experts from different parts of the country and set up stalls for them in the week-long “Hunar Haat”.
Inaugurated by Union Minister for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Hunar Haat has been organised to provide a platform for master artisans and craftsmen to display as well sell their products.
But then, what is the fun without anything to munch on as one takes a look at the wide range of handicrafts and handloom items?
While master artisans from 16 States have brought wrought iron and wood carving, wooden and sandalwood items, hand-made jewellery, hand embroidery, painting and printed dresses for display and sale, culinary experts from eight States have stalls to satiate your hunger.
Apart from jhewar jelabi, gulab jamun from a Gujarat stall, there is pickle and jack fruit halwa from Kerala and several varieties of food from Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Punjab, Delhi, Andhra Pradesh.
Mr. Naqvi said that this was the third ‘Hunar Haat’ organised by the Ministry for Minority Affairs and first one outside Delhi.

“This event provides a space for the artisans to showcase their traditional products. There are artisans who have come from Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Mumbai, Punjab and many other states.
“We thank the Puducherry government for supporting this event,” he said.
Addressing the public, Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy said: “We respect minority culture and believe in communal harmony. There is constant flow of tourists from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and foreign tourists as well. We expect the tourists to visit this event and enjoy the food and look at the traditional crafts.”
