Equity benchmarks Sensex and Nifty extended their losses for the fifth straight session on Monday, amid geopolitical tensions, outflow of foreign institutional investments (FIIs) and profit booking.

Market participants remained cautious about the government’s plan to unveil a stimulus programme may expand fiscal deficit.

The 30-share BSE Sensex tumbled 295 points, or 0.93 per cent, to 31,626, while the 50-share Nifty dipped 91 points, or 0.92 per cent to 9,872.

Smashing debut
Shares of Mumbai-based construction firm Capacit'e Infraprojects made a solid debut at the bourses on Monday, climbing nearly 60 per cent from the issue price of Rs 250. The scrip got listed at Rs 399, reflecting a 59.60 per cent jump over the issue price of Rs 250 on BSE. The scrip closed 36.50 per cent higher at Rs 341 from the issue price on BSE.

More than 50 stocks hit fresh 52-week lows on NSE on Monday. The list included Aditya Birla Capital, Punjab & Sind Bank, Jindal Cotex, JMT Auto, Sanghvi Movers, Sakthi Sugars, Tree House Education and Usher Agro.

Shopping time
Shares of Shoppers Stop advanced 20 per cent after the company on Saturday informed the bourses that its board had approved a proposal to sell 5 per cent equity in the company to Amazon NV Holdings, the investment arm of the world’s largest online retailer Amazon, for Rs 179.25 crore. Amazon.com NV Investment Holdings, a foreign portfolio investor, will subscribe to about 43.95 lakh shares in Shoppers Stop at Rs 407.78 each on a preferential basis.

Spike in volume
Shares of Infibeam Incorporation tumbled nearly 40 per cent in intraday trade on BSE with huge volume. Traded volume of the stock saw nearly 4-times spike against the two-week average daily volume. The stock’s delivery volume on last five days stood at 24 per cent. Shares of the company closed 17.85 per cent down at Rs 117.80.

Shares of Coffee Day Enterprises declined over 8 per cent after reports that income-tax raids on the Cafe Coffee Day (CCD) retail chain since Thursday found Rs 650 crore concealed income from the documents seized. Coffee Day Enterprises runs coffee chain under the brand name Cafe Coffee Day. Shares of Coffee Day Enterprises closed 8.24 per cent down at Rs 212.80.

Jaiprakash Associates were among the most active stocks in terms of traded volume on Monday. It was followed by Infibeam Corporation, Suzlon, Reliance Communications, Unitech, Indiabulls Real Estate, GMR Infra and South Indian Bank.

Spurt in open interest
Shares of Bharti Infratel witnessed the biggest spike in open interest contracts at 37.48 per cent, followed by UBL (35.28 per cent), Castrol (32.18 per cent) and Dabur (30.98 per cent).
