Bhopal: Bhanpur residents are cross with Bhopal Municipal Corporation over dumping of garbage in their locality. They have warned of taking to streets if the corporation does not stop using the practice which is going on for past many years. “From October 2, we will not allow any BMC vehicles to trash in our area,” said a local leader Ashfaq Khan.
The residents have been demanding to shift the Bhanpur khanti from their area to some other location as heaps of garbage there are posing threat to their health. They said that urban administration and development minister Maya Singh had assured them of shifting the trenching ground to some other place but to no avail so far.
“It seems that BMC does not want to shift the garbage dumping unit from our locality. Whether it wants or not, but we are not going to let the corporation to dump garbage in our locality anymore. We have suggested them to identify some other location by October 2 and start trashing solid waste there,” Khan said. Citing an order of the human rights commission, Khan also demanded free tap connection in the villages which are affected by the trenching ground. He said that the civic body should ensure free of cost tap connection to those who suffered due waste and garbage borne diseases.
Local corporator Leela Kishan Mali also stated that the corporation should identify some other spot for trenching ground as it is taking toll on health of Bhanpur people. Bhanpur is highly populated locality now. So the BMC should shifting the trenching unit from the locality or else create dumping unit in every ward so that other areas garbage is not being dumped at Bhanpur, he added.
