  • Uber is cashing in on the festive season
  • The company is offering discounts on UberPOOL in NCR area
  • Discounts are limited to people in NCR area for now

Uber is making it more affordable for residents of NCR area to roam around places ahead of Diwali, as the company looks at cashing in on one of India's most celebrated festivals.

For people looking to travel within either of the respected areas - Gurugram, Delhi, Noida-Ghaziabad - Uber is offering up to 50 percent discount on its carpooling service UberPOOL in the country, it said.

The UberPOOL offer will last till Saturday, September 30 and it is only available between 7am and 11pm, the ride-hailing company said, adding that customers won't have to apply any promo codes as the discounts will be automatically enabled on the rides.

Elaborating on the plan, the company said capped fares of Rs. 59 for up to 9km and Rs. 99 for up to 19km will be applicable in Gurugram, Delhi, and Noida-Ghaziabad. "If your drop off location is different from the destination entered on the app then the lower fares will not be applicable and you will have to pay the actual fare," the company said.

Uber said the lower fares will not be valid to those customers who change the destination, deviate from the route, or end up taking longer than the usual waiting time. "Each request can have a maximum of 2 riders per pick up. POOL is not available for trips beginning from or ending at Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi Airport," the company added.

The discounts come as Indians prepare to spend heavily and celebrate with friends on the occasion of Diwali. Amazon India on Monday said its four-day festival sale in India was its biggest shopping event to date in the country. For now, Uber's discounted Pool rides are exclusively available in the NCR area.
