‘Underprivileged children will no longer have to skip morning meals’

NLC India Ltd (NLCIL) has rolled out a free breakfast scheme in its schools as part of its CSR initiative.

S.K. Acharya, CMD, NLCIL inaugurated the scheme targeted at an estimated 2,000 Class XI and XII students, coinciding with the eve of the birth centenary celebrations of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay, one of the leaders who spearheaded the Bharatiya Jana Sangh.

According to the NLCIL, the scheme will be implemented by Sneha Opportunity Services (SOS) with the coordination of the Education Department of NLCIL with an estimated cost of ₹1.25 crore per year.

Dr. Acharya, in his inaugural speech, said that NLCIL has implemented this scheme to provide a healthy diet to underprivileged children. The scheme will soon include special classes organised on holidays.

He asked students to keep up their efforts to achieve better results, and make their parents and institutions proud.

The NLCIL launched the scheme after finding that it was common for underprivileged children to skip breakfast and attend school on empty stomach.

THe NLCIL management felt that these children were overcome by hunger and fatigue leaving them unable to concentrate in class.

R.Vikraman, Director (HR), T. Venkatasubramanian, IRSME, CVO, N. Muthu ED/HR, R. Mohan, CGM HR, Yogamaya Acharya, president, Ladies Club and Santhi Selvakumar, Patron, SOS Neyveli and other senior executives participated.
