Baina: houses of 55 Kannadigas to be demolished

As many as 55 houses of Kannadigas staying in Baina area of Goa will be demolished on Tuesday following the orders of the deputy commissioner of south Goa.

Kannadigas have been residing in the property in question for the past 40 years. A private company which has purchased this property has initiated measures for eviction. The local body had issued a notice to the residents on September 7 asking them to vacate their houses. The residents had challenged the notice in the Goa bench of Bombay High Court. However, the court dismissed their petition.

The local administration has deputed policemen near the property. Some residents have already taken shelter in a nearby temple.
