Mumbai: The Maharashtra state road transport corporation (MSRTC) has planned to increase the rate of their bus tickets up to 30 percent during the Diwali season. This comes after the government permitted the state transport for a ‘flexible rate system’ during the holiday season.
The state transport is set to generate an additional revenue up to Rs 2 crore during the Diwali season after increasing the fare rates. “For the past three years, we have been increasing the fare rates during the Diwali season. We have set a different fare rate for each type of bus which would be operating during the season,” said an official from MSRTC.
There would be at least 10 per cent hike in the bus ticket for the ordinary red buses and at least 15% hike for the semi-luxury Asiad buses. The hike in the ticket fare for the ‘Shivshahi’ and ‘Shivneri’ buses would be at least 20%. “The hike in the bus fare would be applicable for the buses running between October 14 to 31. We expect an influx of an additional 2 lakh passengers during the Diwali season. Our aim is to generate revenue by increasing the fare rates,” added the official.
