A committee of advocate commissioners was formed by the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Friday to inspect the Adikesava Perumal Temple at Tiruvattar in Kanniyakumari district.
In his order, Justice R. Mahadevan said that each temple in the country had a unique history and failure to protect them would dent the country’s culture.
He said many ancient temples were ruined as they were not maintained properly, and due to lack of attention, most of them did not come to the limelight.
Petitioner M. Ayyappan, joint secretary of Sri Annapoorani Seva Trust, claimed that the temple needed to be restored.
He alleged that due to political interference in the administration of the temple, ineligible persons were appointed to the board of trustees and renovation work was yet to be completed.
Advocates R.J. Karthick and M. Kannan were appointed commissioners to inspect the temple and submit a detailed report by October 23.
