BELAGAVI: A 23-year-old man was hacked to death by a gang in Gokak town in Karnataka on Sunday night. Rohit Patil, 23, was a member of the Sriram Sene.

He was attacked near Apsara circle in Gokak. The gang arrived on bikes, threw chilli powder in Rohit Patil's eyes and attacked him with swords and rods. He died on the spot while his associate Akshay Ghorpade, who was with Rohit was injured.

Police suspect personal enmity could be the motive for the murder. They have learnt that Rohit Patil was involved in a clash between two groups during the Panchami festival recently. However elders in the village intervened and pacified both groups involved in the squabble.

Police have started questioning the people associated with the clash last month in connection with the murder. Police added that the Injured Akshay Ghorpade is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Gokak and is recovering.

The Gokak town police have registered a case.
