Bhopal: The Bhopal Municipal Corporation had put up water tanks at various areas across the city to ensure that the residents do not have to go looking for water, however it cared least to know whether these tanks are serving any purpose now or not. Residents want the authorities to ensure water in these tanks, but the civic authorities are not paying any heed to their demand.
The civic body had installed these tanks looking into the water crisis specially during summer season. Baring a few, most of the tanks are lying either dilapidated or empty. They are being used for various reasons other than collecting water. Even people have started tying their cattle with these tanks, however the civic authorities are least bothered. However, at a time when there are festivals lined, these tanks can be useful, said corporator of ward number 29 Santosh Kasana. These tanks also very useful for areas where water is supplied on alternate days. If these tanks remain filled, at least the residents can use it as and when required, she added.
Moreover, in pandals and other occasions these tanks can be useful source of water, she said. Another corporator Manjeet Maran said that even in his wards the tanks are lying unused as there is no water. The residents can use the water if the municipal authorities ensure that are filled regularly. The organizers of pandals set up for the Navratri festival can also use the water of these tanks, as now they have to call private tankers, he added.
