A weekend-trekking turned fatal for a student from Bengaluru who drowned in a temple pond, while his friends were busy taking selfies, at Ravugondlu on the outskirts of Bengaluru on Sunday. The head of the victim, identified as Vishwas, was captured in the selfies.

According to preliminary investigations, as his friends were totally engaged in clicking group-selfies, they did not notice Vishwas drowning in the waters behind them.

He was a student of National College in Basavanagudi. A team of 21 students from the college had come to Ravugondlu in Kanakapura taluk for trekking. They ventured into the waters. Of the team members only a few knew swimming, Kaggalipura police said. Vishwas also tried to swim in the waters, but drowned.

The incident came to light after some of his friends began searching for him.

Kaggalipura police personnel visited the spot, retrieved the body and shifted it to a hospital in Bengaluru for post-mortem.

Protest

Meanwhile, his relatives and friends, according to the police, staged a protest outside the college demanding action against the management for its alleged negligence in taking care of the team.
