Rajkummar Rao’s Newton may have opened to a dull start on Friday making less than a crore, but it has quickly gained pace over the weekend and is going strong at the box office. With a collection of Rs 8.21 crore in total till monday, the film has already minted Rs 1.31 crore on Monday.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the latest box office figures, “##Newton is ROCKING… Mon bigger than Fri… Fri 96 lakhs, Sat 2.52 cr, Sun 3.42 cr, Mon 1.31 cr. Total: ₹ 8.21 cr. India biz.” Considering that this is the first working day after the movie’s release, Newton is doin considerably well with its earnings. But also, worth noting is the fact that it’s box office collection grew considerably on Saturday, in fact it increased by a whopping 162.5%.

Taran also tweeted,”#Newton super-strong word of mouth has translated into TERRIFIC biz… Over 450 shows increased across multiplexes over weekend + Mon.”

Meanwhile, Newton being India’s official entry to the Oscars has also become a boon for the film’s performance at the ticketing counter. It has also got rave reviews from critics all over and even fans are bowled over by Rajkummar’s stellar acting skills. Looks like, a solid word-of-mouth has done wonders for this film.

Commenting on his film’s official entry to the Oscars, an elated Rajkummar Rao had told indianexpress.com, “I am elated and super thrilled. The kind of response we are getting for the film in India is so good and now, an Oscar submission, it’s huge. I am very happy to represent India at Oscars. I hope the film makes it to the final list. But right now, I am very happy because we made the movie with a lot of passion, sincerity and honesty, and people are recognising that sincerity.”
