The voting for the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) polls is underway. Of the 546 polling booths in the city, 153 have been categorised as hypersensitive and 99 as sensitive booths. The results will be announced in the evening. Stay tuned for the latest updates.

Special screening of 'Newton' for officials on duty for MCG elections

Gurugram's district administration is going rather filmi. After appointing actor Rajkummar Rao as the brand ambassador of today's MCG elections, the district administration has now decided to treat all officials who are on election duty with Rajkummar's film 'Newton'.
Special screening on October 1: Gurugram Deputy Commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh said, "Rajkummar Rao is playing a presiding officer in Newton, and now, the film is India's official entry to the Oscars. So, we have decided to organise a special screening of the film on October 1 for all the officials who are on election duty."

Residents of Ward number 32 — the largest in both size and number of voters — aren't a happy lot, with many of them planning to boycott the MCG poll in protest.

Some are disappointed with the ward's delimitation, while others, especially those living in privately developed colonies and societies, don't seem to have faith in the corporation or the election process.

DLF-3, one of the city's most affluent areas, is Ward number 35. Its residents are only asking for basic facilities in the upcoming civic polls and hope the new councillor can get their broken roads repaired, stormwater drains constructed, power infra upgraded and encroachments removed before the MCG finally takes over the maintenance of the area.

For voters in ward number 29, covering parts of sectors 46, 47 and 48, Tikli village, Mayfield Garden, Malibu Towne, Jal Vihar, Sushant Lok 1 and 2, vexing issues are similar to residents of other areas.

There are the persistent complaints about lack of proper water supply, electricity and roads, and like elsewhere, residents say they aren't too sure if elections will have any bearing on their lives, as many areas under the ward are yet to be officially taken over by MCG.

The MCG was constituted in 2008 and the first election for 35 wards was conducted in April 2011. The councillors were elected for a tenure of five years which ended in April 2

Since then, the civic body is being run by bureaucrats.

Some former councillors have blamed the ruling dispensation for the over 15 months delay.

We have made fool proof arrangements for conducting the MCG polls and appointed Additional Deputy commissioner (ADC) Pradeep Dahiya as the returning officer for the purpose. We have also appointed 14 assistant returning officers for the conduct of a smooth election.
