‘Will launch agitation to retain it’

Sidelined AIADMK leader T.T.V. Dhinakaran has asserted that the party’s official symbol — two leaves — belongs to the camp led by him and V.K. Sasikala, and that he is prepared for a battle to retain it.

The Dhinakaran faction of the AIADMK has the support of 18 MLAs, who are currently lodged in a resort in Kodagu. Incidentally, the Election Commission is expected to hold a hearing on the allotment of the symbol on October 6, and has issued notice to the parties.

Speaking to mediapersons in Kodagu on Saturday, Mr. Dhinakaran said that his camp would launch an agitation to retain the ‘two leaves’ symbol, adding that his only objective was to pursue and uphold the interests of the AIADMK of which V.K. Sasikala was the general secretary.

Mr. Dhinakaran claimed that the loyalty of about 12 to 15 MLAs, who are with the current dispensation, was in doubt, and that the truth would come to light only during a floor test. “Mr. Palaniswami has betrayed the party, and such acts would not be tolerated as they are inimical to the party’s future,’’ Mr. Dhinakaran added.

‘Sure of victory’

Expressing confidence that an early election would be held, Mr. Dhinakaran said that he was sure of the faction led by Sasikala emerging victorious and forming the next government.

On the possible entry of film stars Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth into politics, Mr. Dhinakaran said that everybody had the right [to enter politics].

On the continued stay of the rebel MLAs in Kodagu, Mr. Dhinakaran said that they would be camping there for one or two more days.
