Mann Ki Baat: PM Narendra Modi on Sunday addressed the nation through the 36th edition of ‘Mann Ki Baat’ radio programme. During an hour-long programme, PM Modi spoke on the various topics including people to share their views on the Narendra Modi App and My Gov Open Forum. One of the main highlights of the show was his pitch to boost cleanliness drive across the nation. PM Modi while talking about Swachh campaign gave the example of 18-year-old ragpicker Bilal Dar from Kashmir and congratulated him. Interestingly, Bilal thanked PM Modi for acknowledging him, reported ANI. Bilal has been the made the brand ambassador for cleanliness by Srinagar municipal corporation, PM Modi said during his speech.

As per Hindustan Times report, Bilal who hails from Bandipora district has been removing plastic trash, used bottles and shoes from the Wular lake and sells it for around Rs 150-200 per day. The 18-year-old SMC brand ambassador has also been reportedly given a special uniform and a vehicle to go and meet people. Bilal also makes people aware of the cleanliness drive. While talking to HT about his new post, Bilal said,”I am very happy. I will go around as the brand ambassador and tell people that if we keep our surroundings clean and follow garbage disposal mechanism, it will benefit all.”

During his address, PM Modi also thanked media for the support in spreading the message of cleanliness across the country. He also stated that fortnight from September 15 till Gandhi Jayanti is being celebrated as ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’. PM Modi’s cleanliness campaign has been supported by several celebrities including Bollywood superstar Rajinikanth, Akshay Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan, Anushka Sharma and others.
