India has to invest more in scientific research to become a developed nation, C.N.R. Rao, head of the Scientific Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, has said.
Inaugurating a three-day conference on “Emerging frontiers in chemical sciences” at Farook College here on Saturday, Dr. Rao said that science had an important role in nation building.
Interdisciplinary method
The Bharat Ratna Award winner also mentioned about the importance of interdisciplinary methods in research and the need to reconstruct the curriculum for a fruitful education system.
Dr. Rao stressed the need for collaboration in research and the highlighted the failure of the research output in solving the problems of everyday life. The traditional method of study could not help develop science, he said. A.K. Abdul Rahim, head of the department of chemistry, Farook College; E.P. Imbichikoya, Principal; and T. Pradeep, faculty member, IIT Madras, were present.
