BHUBANESWAR: A court here on Saturday rejected the bail plea of BJD MLA Pravat Ranjan Biswal, who was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on September 19, in connection with the multi-crore Seashore chit fund scam. The legislator’s lawyer had filed a bail plea before Special CBI CJM court here on health grounds. But the Central agency’s counsel told the court that Biswal might tamper with the evidence if he is granted bail.

The CBI had produced the MLA in the court on Friday, two days ahead of his remand was supposed to get over. The agency told the court that their interrogation was over after which Biswal was sent to Jharpada Special Jail. The court had directed Special Jharpada Jail doctors to examine Biswal’s health condition and admit him at Capital Hospital, if need arises. Biswal was rushed to Capital Hospital on Friday night after he complained that he was feeling unwell.

Capital Hospital Director Dr CR Das told ‘Express’ that Biswal complained about severe back pain, head reeling, stomach ailment and uneasiness. Doctors also conducted blood test, ultrasound, X-ray and other tests of Biswal on Saturday. The hospital doctors informed that they will urge specialists from SCB Medical College and Hospital to visit Biswal in case his health deteriorates.
