Mumbai: Stepping up its attack on the BJP-led State government, in which it is a partner, the Shiv Sena began a series of protests across the State against inflation and rising fuel prices. Protests were held at 12 locations in Mumbai. The protesters also sought to highlight the Maratha community’s demand for reservation and problems faced by university students.

Yuva Sena chief Aditya Thackeray said the Sena supports morchas against fuel price hikes. He said Sainiks looked for hoardings used in the run-up to the 2014 general elections denouncing price rise and demanding then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s resignation. “These protesters are ministers now,” he said.

Mr. Thackeray said the agitation will continue. “People will not forgive those who had sought votes on false promises. This government will have to listen to the man ki baat of the people.”

Earlier this week, the Shiv Sena had threatened to withdraw support to the State government over these issues.
