Fire services personnel extinguishing flames in an agriculture godown at Ganapavaram village in Guntur district on Saturday | Express

GUNTUR: About 510 cotton bales and 430 turmeric bags were destroyed in a fire at an agriculture godown at Ganapavaram village in Chilakaluripet mandal on Saturday.
National Bulk Handling Corporation (NBHC) supervisor S Anand Babu said some security guards who noticed fire in the godown, immediately informed the matter to the Fire Services Department. Fire tenders rushed to the godown and extinguished the flames. By that time, 510 cotton bales and 430 turmeric bags were gutted. The total loss was estimated at `1.1 crore.

The godown belonging to Polisetty Somasundaram was leased to NBHC. An agri firm stocked cotton and turmeric in the godown. As there is no power supply in the godown, there is no scope for an electric short circuit. The reason for the mishap is yet to be ascertained, said fire officer P Venugopal.
