Mysuru emerge champions

Hosts Mysuru continued their dominant show to emerge overall champions as the Dasara Games came to a conclusion here at the Chamundi Vihar stadium on Sunday.

Mysuru, with 225 points, bagged the trophy while Bengaluru Urban finished second with 202 points.

Manish of Mysuru, who bagged a sprint double, was the individual champion in the men’s section.

In the women’s category, Bengaluru’s Prajna Prakash and local lass Navami shared the honour of the individual champion.

On the final day, Manish, who won the 100 metres title on the opening day of the Games, powered to gold in the men’s 200 metres. Manish clocked 21.70 to pip L Bharath (22.0) for gold.

In the corresponding women’s race, Navami triumphed in a time of 24.10 seconds while A T Dhaneshwari (25.0) and C H Vishwa (25.30) settled for silver and bronze respectively.

In the women’s javelin throw, favourite Shahajahani of Mysuru won the title and bettered her own meet record in the process. With an effort of 46.25, Shahajahani, an employee of Life Insurance Corporation, broke her own previous record of 45.77 set last year.

Govind Singh (1:07:09) of Ooty and Akshatha (1:25.02) of Davangere took the top spot on the podium in the men’s and women’s half-marathon respectively.
