CHENNAI: PMK founder S Ramadoss has urged the Centre to amend the rules on the process of linking the Aadhaar number with bank accounts and mobile numbers, so that the common man is not unduly affected.

In a statement on Saturday, Ramadoss urged the Centre to ensure that subsidies, especially under direct benefit transfer schemes are credited to consumers' primary bank accounts, and not the last Aadhaar-linked account.

In his statement, he alleged that some private companies are taking advantage of the situation. He referred to recent reports on retailers of a leading telecom company opening payments bank accounts using customers' Aadhaar information, without their knowledge.

He also referred to reports on complaints that those accounts were linked to receive LPG subsidy. Ramadoss alleged that the money transferred to those accounts could only be used for electronic transactions.
