Maruti Suzuki WagonR reaches 20 lakh sales milestone in India

Maruti Suzuki WagonR has reached 2 million sales mark in the country till September this year. It is one of the best-selling and popular hatchbacks in the company's product lineup.

Maruti Suzuki WagonR is one of the popular hatchbacks in the company's model lineup that has now crossed 2 million cumulative wholesales till September, 2017. According to the company, nearly, 45 percent of the WagonR customers have chosen the car as their first car and about 20 percent of the WagonR customers have purchased the car multiple times. This has made the Maruti Suzuki WagonR the third model in the company stable after Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 and Alto K10 to reach this sales figure. In 2004, the sales of the Maruti Suzuki WagonR reached 1 lakh units, which later went up to 5 lakh units in 2008 and 15 lakh units and 20 lakh units in 2017 and 2017, respectively.

The car manufacturer's other best-selling model, the Alto, which was launched in 2012, crossed 2 million sales mark and 3 million in 2016. The Maruti Suzuki WagonR is priced between Rs 4.14 lakh and Rs 5.34 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi, while Maruti Suzuki Alto starts at Rs 3.70 lakh and goes up to Rs 3.34 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. Both the cars cater to the different segment and buyers.

Since its launch in the Indian auto market in 1999, Maruti Suzuki has regularly updated the WagonR as per the changing needs of the customers. Maruti Suzuki introduced new design and technology in the WagonR. The hatchback is now available with a host of features both at the exterior and interior. The car feature dual front airbags and ABS (Antilock Braking System) as safety equipment. The outgoing WagonR is available in both petrol and CNG options that are paired to a 5-speed manual and Auto Gear Shift with automatic and manual mode gearbox.

The Maruti Suzuki WagonR with auto gear shift transmission accounts for around 16 percent of the sales, while the CNG options account for over 20 percent sales. The WagonR was the first model in the company's portfolio that gets a tall boy design and dual fuel options, petrol and LPG. Later, car manufacturer introduced the WagonR with CNG kit and the LPG versions were discontinued.
