A strong 6.2-magnitude quake shook Mexico on Saturday, causing panic in traumatized Mexico City, where rescuers trying to free people trapped from this week's earlier earthquake had to suspend work. AFP

The president of Mexico Enrique Pena Nieto has announced aid for the reconstruction of houses damaged in the 7 September quake in the states of Oaxaca and Chiapas. AP

The president said that in Santiago Niltepec and throughout the states of Oaxaca and Chiapas, the census of earthquake-affected people was complete and reconstruction work will start from next week. AP

Meanwhile, outdoor cremations are being organised for the hundreds of people who lost their lives in the earthquake last week

Many residents are spending nights in parks and plazas, in tents or makeshift shelters, unable or unwilling to return to their homes as authorities report aftershocks. AP
