SRIKAKULAM: Addicted to alcohol, a farmer who often quarrels with his wife over petty issues, took it out on his one and a half years old son, forcing him to swallow pesticide at Mandasa of Srikakulam district on Saturday afternoon. After making his son drink pesticide, the farmer also followed the suit. The kid died while undergoing treatment at a hospital, while the condition of the farmer is said to be stable.
According to the police, Maddela Dharma Rao, a farm hand, is addicted to alcohol. He often quarrels with his wife over petty issues.

After his work in the paddy fields on Saturday, he came home with a bottle of pesticide. After a quarrel with his wife, he dragged his son Maddela Uma Maheswara Rao who was playing in the street to the house and forced him to swallow the pesticide. Dharma Rao then consumed the pesticide left in the bottle.
At around 12.30 pm, the family members found Dharma Rao and his son lying senseless on the floor.

The family members, along with some neighbours, rushed the father-son duo to a private hospital in Palasa where the doctor referred them to RIMS in Srikakulam. The doctors said that it was too late for the boy to respond to the medicine and he died at around 6.30 pm. However, the condition of Dharma Rao was stated to be stable. A case has been registered at Mandasa police station.
