It is amusing that soon after announcing that he is not hungry for power, actor Kamal Haasan has now openly declared his political ambitions. If even before deciding to float a political party, he voices an intent to serve Tamil Nadu, and only as its Chief Minister, doesn’t it convey his unadulterated avarice (“Kamal ready to serve T.N. as Chief Minister”, September 22)? One really wonders what good he has done for the people of the State or the sacrifices he has made for them to immediately crown him as the Chief Minister.
The people of Tamil Nadu want an alternative stable government.

Kamal Haasan’s move to hobnob with the Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal is an unwise and immature step. Mr. Kejriwal has lost his relevance in Indian politics and almost all the big names within his political party have left the party out of sheer desperation. Mr. Kejriwal’s grand plan to win elections across India is one that has fallen flat. Mr. Haasan could have egg on his face if he is not pragmatic.

Kamal Haasan may be a hero on the silver screen but is building castles in the air without a practical and basic foundation of public service. Before encouraging him, the media should find out whether he deserves to hold political office.
The people of Tamil Nadu have had enough of the cinema industry steering the State to the brink and deserve better.

Politics has become the last refugee of Tamil actors. Kamal Haasan is undoubtedly a doyen of the Tamil cinema industry and should stick to this. What is his contribution to society? Just tweeting is not enough. Even his tweets and so-called political statements are loaded with ambiguity. Of course, this is a democratic country and anyone can jump into politics. It is upsetting that there are many who want the post of Chief Minister but without working hard. No one should take people in the State for granted. Let Mr. Haasan quit cinema, work with the people for a few years and then contest elections.
