London strips Uber of license

Uber says it'll appeal the decision by regulators. One analyst tells Fred Katayama the ride sharing company will likely overcome this hurdle.

A big blow for Uber in the home of Big Ben. London stripped the ride sharing firm of its license. The city's transport regulator said it would not renew Uber's license that expires at the end of September because it was not fit to hold one. Transport for London said Uber's corporate behavior posed what it called "potential safety and security implications." Unions, cab drivers, and lawmakers in London have criticized Uber over working conditions. Northwestern University Transportation Center director Hani Mahmassani: SOUNDBITE: HANI MAHMASSANI, DIRECTOR, NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY TRANSPORTATION CENTER, (ENGLISH) SAYING: "It's one hurdle along the way. There will be others, but I suspect they will overcome this one like they have overcome others. But I think it is forcing public agencies to address this problem. It's just not going to go away." Uber says it'll appeal the decision. The regulator said it would let the company operate until its appeal process is over. That could take months. This comes at a rocky time for Uber. It's been slammed with a slew of scandals involving allegations of sexism and bullying that forced out its co-founder.
