A third-year B.A. student in Ghaziabad committed suicide after her tutor allegedly sexually harassed her for almost an year.
The teacher, Atul Yadav, was arrested following a complaint filed by the father of the deceased. The police found a suicide note in which the tutor was accused.
The 19-year-old was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her room.
‘Harassed for a year’
The incident was reported around 9 a.m. on Friday.
“A PCR call was made by a neighbour. We recovered a suicide note from the spot,” said Akash Tomar, Superintendent of Police (city), Ghaziabad.
According to the note, the deceased was harassed every day for almost a year by her English tutor.
“Harassment forced her to take her life,” said the father Satish Chand. “She was alone at home when the incident took place. The family was informed by a neighbour,” he added.
“She was upset for a very long time, but she never shared her problems with anyone. We assumed that she was upset due to academic pressure. We have lodged a complaint against him [Yadav],” said Mr. Chand.
A senior police officer said Yadav ran a coaching centre and the victim was studying there for the past two years.
