Caught with ‘beef’, man beaten; Shiv Sena UP says not aware

Police said a group of youths, claiming to be Shiv Sena members, soon arrived at the outpost and created ruckus. Sources said that the youths beat Wasid.

A group of people claiming to represent the Shiv Sena are reported to have assaulted a man who was detained by the police for allegedly carrying 200 kg “beef” in a car in Muzaffarnagar district on Friday. The police said that the district veterinary officer confirmed the meat was that of a cow.

Sub-inspector Vinay Sharma said a car with a broken number plate tried to speed past when asked to stop by a police team at a Shamli outpost. The police gave chase, and the car suddenly stopped, Sharma said. He said: “Two occupants escaped but the driver, Wasid, was caught. While searching the car, the police team found a large quantity of meat.”

Wasid has been booked under Cow Slaughtering Act. SHO of City Kotwali police station, Sanjeev Sharma said, “District veterinary doctor has confirmed the meat as beef.”
