The amenity centre and the centres of excellence of the Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies (Kufos) will be inaugurated on Saturday.
The amenity centre, which is spread across 9,000 sq.ft, has come up at Madavana Junction near the national highway. The centre will house units that sell the fishlings produced at the university and food products developed by the students, guidance centre for farmers, and banks. The facility, which was set up at a cost of ₹2.60 crore, will be open to the public.
Minister for Fisheries J. Mercykutty Amma will inaugurate the centre at 9.30 a.m.
M. Swaraj, MLA, will preside over the meeting. K.V. Thomas, MP, John Fernandez, MLA, A. Ramachandran, Vice Chancellor of the university, K. Padmakumar, Pro-Vice Chancellor, and V.M. Victor George, registrar, will attend.
The centres of excellence in aquatic research management and food processing technology will also be launched.
Later, the new academic block of the university, which will function from the Puthuvype, will be inaugurated by the Minister at 3.30 p.m. S. Sarma, MLA, will preside over the meeting.
A centre for sustainable aquaculture and aquaculture animal health will also be inaugurated.
