Terrorism, climate change and UN Security Council reforms are on the agenda of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj when she addresses the UN General Assembly in some time from now.

This is the second consecutive year when Sushma Swaraj will be addressing the UNGA. Sushma Swaraj is expected to address the UNGA in Hindi like she did last year.

Sushma Swaraj reached New York last Sunday and held a series of bilateral and multi-lateral meetings with her counterparts. During her meetings with foreign ministers of other countries, Sushma Swaraj has emphasised on adoption of the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism that India proposed way back in 1996.

SUSHMA SWARAJ AT UNGA: THE HIGHLIGHTS

The UNGA discussion is slated to begin at 6.30 India time. Sushma Swaraj is the seventh speaker on the list of the leaders scheduled to address the annual meet of UNGA.

As per the rule, a speaker is given 10 minutes to deliver speech. But, it has been seen in the past the most of the speaker exceeded their allotted time. Going by the past experience, Sushma Swaraj, the seventh speaker tonight, is likely to begin her address at around 8 pm.

Before her address to the UNGA, Sushma Swaraj held a crucial bilateral meeting with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson. Sushma raised the issue of terrorism and H-1B with Tillerson. Sushma is expected to talk about India's emerging role in the new geopolitical order.
