Mumbai : The recent trend of having a perfectly shaped beard is catching up among youngsters, there is 50 percent rise in facial hair transplant during Navratri as everyone wants to sport a dense but well-chiselled beard. The doctors said that India is fast emerging as the global hub of facial hair transplant which helps people improve the density of facial hair.
The doctors said that youngsters between the age group of 25 to 35 years opt for beard or moustache transplant.
“We are getting enumerable requests from the youngsters for the facial hair transplant. Due to genetic changes the ability to have quality hair has reduced,” added doctor.
During the festive season, especially Navratri youngsters wish to look good and for this youngsters prepare 3 to 4 months in advance so that the process is completed well in time.
“In a month, at least 5 to 6 people come up with pictures of a particular look that they desire for themselves. Not everyone has the proper density desired for that look, whereas few others have spots of the scar and no hair which needs to be catered to as well,” said Dr. Vinod Vij, a cosmetic surgeon.

There are hardly any risks involved with this process so even youngsters go for it without any worry. If they follow the post-transplant care tips given by the doctor there is not much to worry about.
“The only thing that can go wrong is you might not get the desired density or the look you are aiming for which can also be reversed with a redo procedure,” said a senior doctor.
The doctors said that there are two different procedures for the facial hair transplant, but Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) surgery is quite simple.
“Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is a process wherein hair from your beard or scalp is taken and transplanted. First, the transplant area is cleaned and numbed with local anaesthesia. Follicular units are harvested with 0.9 or 0.8 mm punches and inserted in preformed slits on recipient area (beard). This process takes 4 or 5 hours based on the density and may at times require few sittings as well. Those who only wish to transplant moustache then follicular units from beard are taken and those who want a beard, follicular units from the scalp are taken,” added Dr. Vij.
“After six to seven months complete outcome is seen and 95 percent of times results have been positive,” said doctor
