Mollywood’s up-and-coming actor Tovino Thomas has been roped in to play the main antagonist in Kollywood star Dhanush’s forthcoming film Maari 2. Director Balaji Mohan confirmed the news on Saturday on his Twitter page.

The project which is yet to go on the floors is the sequel to his 2015 hit film Maari. Dhanush plays the titular role of a city-based young rowdy in the film. Besides playing the lead role, Dhanush is also bankrolling the project under his home production banner Wunderbar Films.

Maari 2 will be Tovino’s third collaboration with Dhanush. The VIP actor has produced Tovino’s upcoming Malayalam film Tharangam. The dark comedy will be Dhanush’s debut in Malayalam cinema as a producer.

Meanwhile, Tovino is also awaiting the release of his first Tamil film Abhiyum Anuvum, a romantic flick, which is directed by famous cinematographer B R Vijayalakshmi.

Dhanush is currently part of several exciting new projects, including his Hollywood debut movie The Extraordinary Journey of The Fakir. He will also soon resume shooting for Vada Chennai, a crime drama, which is directed by Vetrimaaran. And he has also signed director Karthik Subbaraj’s untitled flick, which will be shot in the USA.

Dhanush’s previous film Velai Illa Pattadhari 2 aka VIP 2 opened to a good response at the box office earlier this year. The film also marked the comeback of Bollywood star Kajol in Tamil after a gap of 20 years.
