BENGALURU: Teachers of government degree colleges will soon have to return arrear amounts on perks they received between 2006 and 2010. A few weeks back, the Department of Collegiate Education had asked teachers to repay the arrears on basic pay they had received from January 1, 2006 to  March 31, 2010. Following protests from faculty members, the state government withheld the circular temporarily.
The department issued a circular in this regard following objections raised by the Finance Department about wrong calculation of the Dearness Allowance (DA) amount.

According to officials, there is no provision to calculate arrears on DA, House Rent Allowance (HRA) and City Compensatory Allowance (CCA). The arrears are calculated only on basic pay.  “But in this case, while giving arrears, they calculated the same even on DA, HRA and CCA along with basic pay. Now, we need to recover the same,” said a senior official.

The circular issued by the department asks those faculty members who have received arrears on DA, HRA and CCA to pay back the same. “The Finance  Department has also raised objections and has asked us to recover the money,” the official added. At least 5,000 faculty members received arrears, ranging between `20,000 and `1.2  lakh.

Colleges told to fix CCTV cameras in classrooms
All degree colleges in the state will soon have to install CCTV cameras in classrooms. The decision was taken by the department of Collegiate Education for safety of students. The department issued a circular on Friday instructing colleges to install cameras within a month. The circular states that the decision was taken following the suggestions given by the Karnataka State Commission for Women.  This rule applies to government, private and aided colleges and institutions have been asked to consider it as a priority, a senior official told Express.

Lab uniforms must for students, staff

In an official circular issued by the Dr Ajaynagbhusan, commissioner of the department all colleges, that offer science courses have been instructed to follow the rule. The principal will be held responsible if the rule is not followed.
